Our brand promise is to become greener in everything we do. Our children will inherit the Earth and we want to actively secure it for generations to come.
Moving towards a greener production.
We are on a journey to be 100% supplied by renewable energy in our own production facilities – and our goal is eventually to be 100% supplied by renewable energy – both at our own and external production facilities.
We have started our journey and in 2020 we teamed up with the danish company Ørsted to optimize our production and move towards a greener production line. Now all the electricity that we use to produce our products, made in our own production facilities, is covered with certificates from renewable energy production from European wind turbines. This is one of our investments in a cleaner production.
We are very aware that these certificates are not the solution to ending greenhouse gas emissions. But at BIBS, we want to take an active part in green growth, and with this agreement, we are committed to supporting sustainable development.
Note: In Denmark - where we are located - 30% of all energy used already comes from renewable sources (data from 2020), and the future goal for renewable energy is that 100% of all energy needs in all sectors are going to be renewable by 2050.
Working sustainably and responsibly has always been essential to BIBS.
Below you can read a detailed review of the different materials we use in our packaging and our thoughts about the subject.
Our instruction leaflets are made from thin paper material at just 70g. All the paper used for our leaflets is also FSC-approved.
All the cardboard we use in our packaging is FSC-approved. The Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) is a global, non-profit organization dedicated to the promotion of responsible forest management worldwide. FSC sets certain high standards to make sure that forestry is practiced in an environmentally responsible and socially beneficial manner*. The FSC mark is your guarantee that no more wood is felled than the forest itself can reproduce. Likewise, FSC ensures good conditions for the workers and the animals of the forest.
Further, the cardboard items are produced in compliance with Regulation (EC) No 2023/2006 on good manufacturing practice for materials and articles intended to come into contact with food.
Due to legislation and requirements, the cardboard we use in our packaging can sustain temperature fluctuations(from -20° C to 40° C) and can be used for dry packaging, aqueous, acidic, and non-fatty foodstuffs. Due to these requirements, the cardboard we use is not recycled but can be recycled after use.
The current legislation requires our pacifiers to be wrapped in plastic, due to durability and safety. Further, the plastic for our packaging must be food approved. Our products require different packaging, and we have different suppliers for our packaging. For our hard plastic packaging, the outer layers are always made of virgin material, while the middle layer is made of recycled material. We always strive to have as much recycled material in our packaging as possible, and our suppliers for hard plastic offer between 70-90% recycled materials. Up to 90% is provided that there is enough recycled material available. We are working towards using 100% recycled plastic in our packaging in the future.
In regard, to the packaging where we use soft plastic, the legislation and current technology entail that the plastic is 100% virgin plastic. Our suppliers work hard to find a solution where the material can be recycled plastic while still complying with the legislation within food approved plastic. We regularly update our website with the development of using recycled plastic in our packaging.
For our textile products, we are using a poly-plastic bag that is 100% recyclable and biodegradable.
We at BIBS have made a conscious choice regarding our packaging and the materials used. Further, we have ensured that none of the different components in our packaging are
glued together, therefore making it easy to take the different materials of packaging apart. This solution makes recycling easy for you.
As mentioned, due to the requirements our cardboard must comply with, the cardboard we use is not recycled, but it can be recycled after use. Regarding plastic, we are working towards using 100% recycled plastic in our packaging in the future. We are still on a journey to become even greener. It takes time, but we are working hard towards it!
At BIBS we constantly strive to become better in everything we do. And we are continuously working on minimizing the use of packaging, and the possibility to use recycled materials.
All our pacifiers are still produced at our production factory in Hillerød, Denmark where we use the latest technology and production line to produce products with energy saving equipment.
